The Child Life Department helps children, youth and their families cope with the healthcare experience by offering opportunities for play, developmentally appropriate activities, education, preparation for medical procedures and emotional support.
Hospitalized children and adolescents need play materials and diversional activities year round as well as during the holidays. Toys and other items donated by the community help us keep playrooms supplied, provide recreational activities and celebrate special events.
This wish list provides suggestions for items that you or your organization can give to The Montreal Children's Hospital.
In order to maintain patient safety and security, we kindly ask you to respect the following criteria:
-
Due to infection control measures, only new items are accepted (toys, stuffed animals, books and DVD's). Kindly avoid toys stuffed with small pellets or beans.
-
All toys must be SAFE. Toys should be sturdy and free of any parts which may pinch. Please avoid toys which can break easily and leave sharp edges. (i.e. made of glass or brittle plastic)
- We do NOT accept toys that promote aggression: i.e. toy weapons of any kind nor violent video games or movies.
- All craft materials must be non-toxic (ex. Markers, glue, paint)
For ideas of the hospitals donation requests, please see "Toy and Gift ideas" section below.
Holiday donations
We can only accept new and unwrapped gifts for infants, children and adolescents.
Gifts are always sorted prior to distribution. Unwrapped gifts ensure children and adolescents get appropriate material.
Please also refer to our Toy and Gift Wish List below for the hospital's needs.
We also ask that you kindly deliver all holiday gifts prior to December 15th. This allows time for staff to appropriately
organize and make personalized suggestions for patients.
Edible Gifts and Holiday Treats
We do not accept any edible gifts. In addition to the increasing prevalence of food allergies, children in hospitals
can be fasting or on special diets and so do not benefit from such gifts. In lieu, we suggest small non edible toys
(ex: stickers, bubbles, toy gadgets, pencils etc) for Holidays such as Halloween and Easter.
Flowers
Donations of flowers may be dropped off at the reception of the hospital and will be dispersed by the Child Life
Department or directly to the inpatient units.
Personal Presentation of Donations
Presentations of gifts and donations may NOT be made directly to the patients.
Please arrange for a visit to the Child Life Department if these are your wishes.
