Each February the Montreal Children’s Hospital (MCH) of the MUHC commemorates Black History Month through a range of activities open to everyone. Organized by the Sociocultural Consultation and Interpretation Services Committee (SCIS) of the MCH, this year’s events highlight the rich cultural history of Montreal’s Black Communities through public talks, music, dance, art and culinary treats. As Seeta Ramdass, member of the SCIS committee explains, “Black History” transcends skin colour, it is the acknowledgement and recognition of diverse, vibrant cultures and heritages that enrich all of our lives.”
The MCH serves diverse socio-cultural communities and SCIS, based at the MCH, responds to complex issues arising from different cultural and social health perspectives including ethnicity, race, religion, language, disability, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic factors and their impact on equality of health care access for patients and families. SCIS periodically organizes socio-cultural events at the MCH and these are posted on the MCH website at www.thechildren.com
